Supporting You

Working alongside the Information and Advice service, the Supporting You service helps people live independently at home by finding the support you need to manage the smaller tasks in life that can sometimes become too much. These might be shopping, cleaning, transport, gardening, lunch clubs, even changing a lightbulb, plus checking your benefits entitlements to help you pay for the support you need. We visit you at home to find out what your needs are, then help find the local services that are available to support you. After our visit we will telephone you to check if you have been able to get the help you need from the information we have provided. If there is still a problem we will try to put it right, either by arranging another home visit or by helping you to make contact with service providers.

Example of how the Supporting You service can help:

Mrs S is 89 and lives alone.  On visiting her home, it turned out that her heating was no longer working, so Mrs S would turn on the oven and leave the door open to try and keep warm.  The Supporting You service immediately organised a portable electric heater, and carried out a full benefits check, which led to high rate Attendance Allowance, Pension Credit back-dated for a year, and full Council Tax Benefit.  Working with Macclesfield Borough Care and Repair, the house was rewired and four new storage heaters installed.  Mrs S was also helped to get a new fridge freezer and cooker, so that she can have frozen meals delivered, a weekly cleaner from Age Concern East Cheshire’s Home Help service, and Mrs S no longer worries how to pay her bills as direct debits have been arranged.
