ENVIRONMENT POLICY

Age Concern East Cheshire recognises that its activities have an impact on the environment. The organisation is committed to maintaining compliance with environmental legislation and approved codes of practice through a process of continuous improvement in environmental performance.

The organisation will achieve this by implementing an environmental management action plan to monitor progress against the environment policy. This involves assessing all current and future activities to minimise the environmental impact of the organisation. Specific objectives addressed in the action plan include:

• Reducing, re-using and recycling waste
• Increasing energy and water efficiency
• Minimising the environmental impacts of travel

We undertake, so far as is reasonably practicable, to encourage and enable all employees and volunteers to participate in translating this policy into practice.

Age Concern East Cheshire aims to set a good example to other organisations, and will liaise with the local community to achieve environmental priorities, participate in discussions about environmental issues, and expect similar environmental standards from contractors and suppliers.

ENVIRONMENT POLICY OBJECTIVES

It is the policy of Age Concern East Cheshire to work towards the following objectives:

Environmental Management

EM1  Maintain an environmental management action plan to identify and manage the organisation's environmental impacts

EM2  Carry out a regular evaluation of the organisation's  environmental performance

EM3  Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental  legislation and approved codes of practice

EM4  Carry out regular reviews of the organisation's Environment Policy to ensure its ongoing effectiveness

Environmental Awareness

EA1  Train and motivate staff and volunteers to conduct  their activities in an environmentally responsible manner

Energy and Greenhouse Gas Emissions

EG1  Implement actions to achieve reductions in energy use within organisational activities

Waste

WA1  Implement actions to reduce, re-use and recycle waste within organisational activities

Water

W1  Implement actions to reduce, re-use and recycle water within organisational activities

Transport

TP1 Implement actions which seek to minimise the environmental impact of staff journeys to, from and at work

Contractors and Suppliers 

CS1  Implement initiatives which seek to minimise the  environmental impact of all purchases of goods and services
