Age Concern East Cheshire provides 6 day care groups in community centres across East Cheshire - one for older people who are physically frail or socially isolated (New Horizons Group) and five for older people who have dementia.

Time Out Groups

Trained volunteers, supported by paid staff, provide high quality care. We maintain a high ratio of volunteers to service users to ensure that each person receives the special, individual attention they need. The service includes transport, a 2-course hot lunch and a range of stimulating activities, including quizzes, exercises and crafts. In the past year we have also enjoyed pub lunches, barge trips, garden centre visits and a theatre trip. We've even been visited by an assortment of entertainers!

New Horizons Groups

The New Horizons Group is for older people who may be new to the area or feeling isolated and in need of some companionship and company. Members of the group may be experiencing physical frailty in one form or another and find that getting out is becoming difficult.

We provide transport to make attending our groups as easy as possible. Various activities take place throughout the day, according to the wishes of the group, and volunteers serve a hot lunch. The focus is on friends and fun. We currently have a group who meet in Poynton:

Time Out Groups

The Time Out Groups are specifically for older people who are in the early stages of dementia. They may be feeling confused or forgetful and find that being a part of other social groups is difficult. Our small groups are supported by trained volunteers who provide encouragement and assistance where required to enable people to feel relaxed and comfortable whilst sharing a programme of activity designed to be stimulating and fun. Attending the group can also provide a few hours respite for carers. Each Time Out Group meets once a week and they are located at:

Mobberley         Methodist Church       Tuesdays

Congleton         Bromley Farm Community Centre  Thursdays

Wilmslow          Gwyneth Morley Court, Handforth    Fridays
